Thus, the patient under this method of treatment is told by the prescribing medical physician to continue the use of drugs as the illness persists . . . in some cases it may be for life. The patient also suffers side effects and adverse reactions with this onslaught to the normal physiology of the body, which too often results in more prescriptions meant to lessen those symptoms. Most people are unaware that they are entering into a downward spiral that leads to debilitating conditions and an unhealthy lifestyle.
Chiropractic is the largest drugless healing art in the world. Chiropractic seeks out the cause of disease and sets out to correct it without the use of drugs. While drugs alter normal function throughout the body, Chiropractic restores function throughout the body.
Every function taking place in your body is under the control of the nervous system. Proper nerve supply is as important to health as water is to a plant. The nervous system is composed of the brain, spinal cord and a network of nerves which permeate the body much the same as do blood vessels. The spinal cord is encased within a bony shaft consisting of 24 movable vertebrae which we call the spine. Spinal nerves are emitted through small holes in these vertebrae to every cell in the body. As long as there is no nerve interference, every cell operates normally. But interference with the natural flow of mental impulses to the cells in the organs of the body produces malfunction, injury and ultimate destruction of the cells. Remove the interference and you correct the basic cause of malfunction and disease.
If and when a vertebra becomes subluxated, (out of alignment) and produces an interference with the normal transmission of nerve impulses it will produce abnormal function and/or abnormal development, pains and disorders; this is disease. Chiropractic is the science of locating the point of interference and then adjusting the vertebra to remove the interference so the body can function properly and allow for healing. An adjustment of the spine consists of a small “thrust” to the proper part of the spine in order to remove interference between the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the organs.
